Rimmel London has just released a double ended shadow and liner. I have tried a few cream shadow sticks in the past and most of them were less than stellar. They either smudged or creased really bad if not set with an eyeshadow on top. So has Rimmel come out with a product that can handle these issues?
The double ended shadow and liner sticks come in 4 variants. Rimmel claims that the shadows and the liners are highly-pigmented, ultra intense colour, crease-proof, transfer proof, waterproof. They have also stated that they have a quick drying formula. The product will retain for AUD 16.95 and can be bought at places such as Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and other stores that sell Rimmel London.
Swatch and Rub test
Darkside of Blue
Back to Blacks
Upon applying the shadow and liner onto the skin, I allowed it to sit for only a few seconds and then rubbed to see if you can make a smoked out effect.
Darkside of Blue's shadow smoked out beautifully but once completely set, if was budge-proof. The liner was the same story but as you can see in the photo above, most of the blue had already faded with just a few rubs of my finger.
Back to Blacks had the same results as Darkside of Blues but their pigmentation for both the shadow and the liner were much better. Despite rubbing, majority of the pigmentation stayed on the skin.
Overall
I tried out the products for a few days. I tested them out with and without eyeshadow primers, used them as eyeshadow bases and used them alone. Results varied depending on the combination of products that I used.
I found that when used with an eyeshadow primer and then applying a powder shadow on top that the shadows lasted very well. No smudging and very minimal creasing noted at the end of the day. When using it as an eyeshadow base and applying a shadow on top, the results were very similar to the results mentioned above.
In terms, of using by itself the results were different. Using it with or without an eyeshadow primer and then just the shadow on top, I noticed a bit more creasing on the lids but nothing too extreme. Pigmentation remained intact and there was still no smudging. It was still very wearable through a 8 hour work day. It was only noticeable if you looked up close.
As for the eyeliners, they worked beautifully. They lasted very well on the eyes. As long as you do not smudge them before they set, they will last you all day.
Overall, I think Rimmel has done a good job with these double ended pens. The products themselves have a really good formula, last well on the lids and are very pigmented. The only issues besides the minor creasing if used alone, is that the shape of the pens can affect your application especially for the liners. You might have to consider either using a sharpener for it or a brush for the application.
I think this is a great for people always on the go and want something that is travel friendly, works and it affordable.
