Years ago, I never thought primers would ever be part of my makeup routine. I always thought they were an unnecessary step and that I was just basically throwing away money. However, in recent years I cannot get enough of primers!
Gone are the days when a primer's sole purpose was just to help the makeup glide on better onto the skin. These days we have so many demands for our primers from oil control, longevity, pore concealment and event to help make our foundations more luminous.
Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer
As the name implies, it is a primer that hydrates and also helps blur the skin's imperfections. Now this is not a miracle cream, it is not going to blur that gigantic pimple you might have but it will help blur the appearance of fine lines and pores. The magic behind this primer is that once applied to the skin it gives a mattifying effect and thus blurs the appearance of the fine lines and pores.
I find it to be the perfect base for makeup when I know I have a long day ahead of me and I need my makeup lasting all day and still looking good. I find that with a long stressful day that my skin can look a bit rough, dehydrated and this primer puts a stop to that without making me look shinny at the end of the day. Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
This is definitely a cheaper option and more readily available as most supermarkets and drugstores have this product. When it first came out onto the market here in Australia people went crazy for it. It isn't hard to see why. It is a great pore filling product, it also has a mattifying effect to the skin and it is quite affordable, espeically because there are always sales around. The only downside with this product is that it does not have anything help with oil control so you might have to rely on a good oil controlling foundation or powder. My favourite places to get Maybelline product in Australia are from Priceline and Chemist Warehouse
Nip and Fab Viper Vemon Mirco Blur
This primer is more of a serum-like consistency and requires some time to sink into the skin before makeup application. As with any primer, apply it to freshly cleansed and moisturised skin if you need it and then apply this product and let it sink in for 5 minutes. It works like the other primers in the sense that it helps minimise the appearance of pores and fine lines but it does it differently. It has products that help relax expression lines and give an optical illusion that the pores aren't that big. This is my go to primer for when I want have a bit of a luminous look to my skin but still have that soft focused look to the skin. You can get this product from their website.
