NYX Candy Color Mascara | ThePopHeir | Swatch & Review

It is finally spring in Australia and NYX Australia has a treat for us! They are releasing 5 new Candy Coloured mascaras this month and who doesn't love candy? In this post I will be swatching, demonstrating and reviewing the 5 new shades.

The mascara claims to be highly pigmented, adds volume and length to lashes. These new colours will be exclusive to Target ONLINE only from Mid-September. They will retail for $12.95, Target have makeup sales every now and then so you might be able to get them cheaper.

Photo of my bare lashes. They are naturally curled and very dark, almost black.

Forget Me Not

This is a light purple mascara. As you can see it quite pigmented and is quite visible on my lashes. Even from a normal, conversation distance the mascara is still noticeable. Compared to the other shades, I found this seemed to add more volume to my lashes.

Pink Perfect

When I first pulled the wand out of the tube, I was somewhat disappointed as it looked more like a salmon pink instead of the bright candy pink of the tube. However after applying it to my lashes I was pleasantly surprised to see it did apply candy pink.

Coral Reef

This is their coral orange colour. As you can see from the photo above, with just 1 layer it was not able to completely cover my lashes. To me it applied slightly patchy on the first later, however on the second layer it was more pigmented. I would suggest using this shade overtop another mascara or just on the tips.

Mint Julep

Excuse the messy application of this beauty mint shade. This is definitely my favourite colour out of all the shades. It is very bright and pigmented. Easily covered my lashes in one coat. I love putting this on the lower lash line to have a pop of colour.

Perfect Pear

This is their acid green colour. It is very neon and reminds me of yellow highlighting pen. I can definitely see this being a popular shade for Halloween looks or just on the tips overtop of your regular mascara to add a bright pop of colour.

Experience

In my experience, these mascaras are better used on the lower lash line to add a pop of colour or on the tips overtop your regular black or brown mascara for an ombre effect.  The wand is perfect for the lower lash line as it is not too big. I found that certain shades are definitely more pigmented compared to the others.

The formula for all colours is very wet and I found it took more than a minute for it to completely dry which means it will take longer to apply the mascara and you have to be careful not to get it on the rest of the eye area. If not allowed sufficient time to dry in between applications, the mascara tends to clump the lashes and thus requires a lash comb to separate them. However if allowed to dry, you can layer the other colours to create a beautiful look, like in the photo above. I saw they gave me more length and a little volume. The formula did not have a scent.

Removal does take a bit of effort, even with an oil based makeup remover. I found myself leaving the eye area to soak with the solution longer before the mascara would budge. As for lasting power, I found that they hardly smudge and I did not see any flaking.

Overall

Overall, I am really impressed by the mascaras. Obviously some shades did not workout for me but certainly the mint green, purple and pink are winners for me! I recommend these mascara to those looking to add a pop of colour into their makeup in a subtle way. You can use them on their own or layer them on top of your regular mascara or layer them on top of each other to create a rainbow!
