How I keep the brass away! | ThePopHeir | Purple Shampoo

As a bleach blonde, brassy hair is always on my mind. Nothing worse than having brassy neon hair! Doesn't matter how on fleek your makeup maybe, if you have brassy hair it is definitely a big no no! The two product you see in the photo above are my go to hair toning products.

For years, I have been battling the brass and have tried so many types of purple/toning shampoos. From drugstore to salon quality and I think I have definitely found the combo that works for me. I usually bleach my roots every 4-5 weeks and dye my roots around the 2 week mark in between bleachings to lift my naturally dark roots to a brown colour. I only wash my hair probably 3-4 times a week depending on how dirty it gets. I generally find that my hair goes really brassy after a week of either bleaching or dyeing my hair. I think my hair is just very porous and the sun here in Australia is just really strong. These are just some of the many factors that contribute to brassy hair.

The Shampoo

This shampoo has been a favourite of mine for about 2 years now. I have since then bought more bottles as I use to use to shampoo not only as a every now and then toning shampoo but to actually tone my hair. This was back in the day when I would platinum blond.

This product is extremely pigmented. When I use to go platinum blond, I would mix this in with white conditioner and leave it on the roots for 30 minutes and I would have perfectly platinum roots. Nowadays, I just use this shampoo once a week to tone my hair. As my hair is very porous, I find that I can sometimes get an uneven tone in my hair. When I use to use this alone, I use to use another, plain shampoo first and ring out the excess lather and then put some of this on. I then would leave it for a minute or two and continue with the rest of my hair routine.

The Conditioner

I only recently tried the accompanying conditioner and I must say this has solved my uneven toning problem. I never really thought about trying the conditioner before as I have always heard the shampoo would be more than enough to tone my hair.

I use the conditioner with the shampoo and sometimes in between when I feel my hair is going slightly brassy but I do not want to use the shampoo yet as I might get really ashy hair which is not the look I am currently going for. Looking at the product itself, it is nowhere near as pigmented as the shampoo. However, after using it with just the shampoo I found that it solved my uneven toning problem. I am not sure if it reinforces the pigmentation in the hair or what but I always find I have  more even toned hair afterwards.

I would highly recommend the pair to any blond out there! They both work wonderfully together. They are quite affordable and readily available online and in store here in Australia.
