Schwarzkopf Brilliance in 01 Ice Blonde

Schwarzkopf states that their brilliance line provides professional quality hair colouring at home. I have used the brand countless times before and I do love their brilliance line because my hair does come out looking shinny after using it.

The shade 01 Ice Blonde is a very light blonde colour with ashy undertones, in my opinion green based. This particular shade is recommended to be used on light brown hair to medium blonde hair as this product does have a lightener in it. This shade is unfortunately not suitable for grey hair. It is also not recommended to be used over bleached hair.

I have naturally dark hair, almost black and I only eve use these box dyes to lift my roots to a light brown colour or to help tone some of the brass away from my hair.

Contents

When you first open the box you will get the usual materials; the peroxide, the hair colour, instructions, an aftercare conditioner and in this particular shade a blonde activator. At the time of this post, I have already used the box so the dazzling diamond shine serum has already been used, as well as the gloves that come with the box.

The instructions are pretty straight forward. It is important that you do an allergy test prior to using the product. I also recommend doing a strand test in order to gage how long you need to see the desired results. The instructions contain explain how to apply the mixture if it is your first time colouring your hair and also how to touch up your roots.

The blonde activator is what other brands refer to as the lightener or something like bleach. This is what is needed to lift darker hair to a light colour. It is easy to use as you just need to mix it in the bottle with the rest of the products.

My Experience

I found this box dye to be easy to use, the instructions are easy to understand and explain well what needs to be done. As I was only touching up my roots, I decided to only use half of the peroxide/developer and half of the hair dye. I mixed all in a hair colouring bowel with the dazzling diamond shine serum and applied it only to my roots as my objective was only to lift my roots to a brown colour. I did not use the blonde activator as I only use bleach on my roots to get them to a blonde colour.

The mixture was easy to use as it was not too runny which made the application process easy with minimal mess. I left the mixture in my hair for a total of 30 minutes and during the last 2 minutes of the application I ran the rest of the colour on the ends of my hair to freshen up the colour. I then proceed to rinse my hair and then applied the aftercare conditioner, which I left on for a good 2 minutes.

I blow dried my hair and could instantly feel my hair feeling a bit weighed down. This indicates that the conditioner is heavy and may contain products that help add shine to the hair. Once my hair was fully dried, I could feel that my hair was really soft and I could see an impressive shine to my hair. My roots were lifted nicely to a brown colour without any brass. Certain parts of my hair were starting to look brassy and I noticed that the colour toned my hair perfectly.

Overall I think this is a great product! It is quite affordable and is readily available at most chemists and supermarkets here in Australia. The colour is amazing and the sine is unbeatable. I recommend this product to those with darker hair looking to lift your hair to a nice brown shade without the brass and those with lighter hair wanting to get that almost platinum look.
