Going lighter can help bring out your features more or brighten your complexion. Unfortunately, going lighter also means that you will have to deal with maintenance. Colour restore offers an easy way to help cool down brassy hair.
I have been blonde for years now and I am well acquainted with the warm tones in my hair. Being that my natural hair colour is a very dark brown (board-line black), stripping the colour to get a nice blonde colour can be quite the struggling and maintenance is a whole other story!
Colour Restore states that this product is a new way to control pigment levels within colour treated hair. General washing, styling, heat and sun damage can strip the hair of artificial pigments. The lightening effects of peroxide can also cause natural warm tones to "glow" in mid blonde to dark brunettes.
This product is available at Priceline in Australia and Boots in the UK. It comes in 100ml and retails for AU$16.95.
My Experience
Since deciding to go a dark shade of blonde, I have only been bleaching my roots once and toning with a strong ash toner after. However after a few washes or long walks under the bright sun, I often find my hair starting to get a bit too warm! I use this post my regular shampoo and leave it in for at least 5 minutes at a time and I find that it knocks the brass one a bit. After using it a few more times, it gave my roots a more natural shade of blonde which is what I wanted.
I found the tone stayed in my hair for a good 2 washes and multiple long walks in direct sunlight before going back to a warmer tone. To avoid this, I would mix a bit of this in my regular conditioner when I wash my hair and use it on its own on a weekly basis to get my hair a nice ashy boost.
Overall
I am extremely pleased with the results I get from this product and I highly recommend it to help top up the ash in your hair. This has been a lifesaver and I use it all the time to keep my hair looking brass free.
